Abstract

Davies et al. discuss the results of their investigation into the understandings of trainee (student) teachers about the UK government's goals for young people in integrated systems of welfare provision as revealed in thye policy document Every Child Matters (ECM), which resulted in the Children Act 2004. These authors' research was based on data from 197 initial teacher education trainees in three institutions in England drawn from six subject areas, and focused on (1) trainees' reactions to the anticipated outcomesof ECM and (2) their confidence that they would be able tohelp impliment the initiative in their roles as form tutors (home room teachers) ans subject teachers.
