Abstract
Food procurement in schools and early years settings (EYS) has long been viewed
as an opportunity to transform food systems. The FixOurFood programme has
identified that food procurement in these settings, (which both prioritises child
health and benefits the environment) is an important area needing transformation.
However, it acknowledges that the focus of policy and research has been on schoolage children, leaving a gap in research on how food is procured in the early years (EY). This report seeks to address this gap in how and what foods are provided
in settings that care for children aged five years and under. It is a continuation of
FixOurFood’s work on public sector food procurement in schools.
