Abstract

The high spin yrast structure of 117I has been studied with the Al-27 + Mo-94 reaction at 129 MeV. Three structural features have been identified: (i) coexisting prolate (gamma = 0-degrees) and oblate (gamma = -60-degrees) collective shapes involving the pih11/2 orbital, (ii) noncollective oblate (gamma = +60-degrees) shapes associated with band termination, and (iii) a delayed nuh11/2 crossing frequency in the pi[550]1/2- yrast band.
