Abstract

Describes the process of gentrification, explaining how it can change the character of urban areas by displacing or replacing local residents. Examines the process of loft; conversions and renovation or rehabilitation of warehouses etc that has taken place in London, and looks at the impact of gentrification on local communities and regeneration.; Describes the situation in the docklands area of Southwark where gentrification has replaced working class households and communities, causing loss of employment and housing; opportunities for local residents.
