Abstract

Discusses the results of a review of the literature on the impact of gentrification in inner cities. Looks at the costs of gentrification, focusing on the displacement of; poorer households and conflicts arising between tenants and landlords. Considers the positive impacts of gentrification such as greater social mix and improving local; services. Briefly outlines statistics on the numbers of people displaced by gentrification. Concludes that the evidence indicates that there are profound social costs to be; paid.
