Abstract
Recent Australian, Canadian and European evidence shows that, while Housing First ends homelessness for around eight out of every ten people with high and complex needs, the results that Housing First achieves in addiction, social integration and mental health can be uneven. There is a need to be sensible about what Housing First can achieve, the lessons from overseas are that Housing First can make an important difference to homelessness in Australia, but it is important to be clear about what Housing First is, how best to use it and what it can be expected to achieve.
