Abstract

Contrary to public perception, products derived from renewable resources will not normally be 100 percent CO2 neutral. In this article we propose a new metric c (renewable value) for assessing the environmental impact of renewable chemical products, and discuss the roles of transport, biorefinery location and green chemical technology in a sustainable chemical economy.
