Abstract
This introduction to the book has been collectively written by Pete Dale, Pamela Burnard and Raphael Travis, the editors. It begins with some background regarding the CUMIN project (Contemporary Urban Music for Inclusion Network) which was the crucible from which Music for Inclusion and Healing in Schools and Beyond has emerged. Educational, cultural, and social (current) realities and (future) possibilities are then discussed, with the overall structure of the book accounted for in some detail, including chapter-by-chapter summaries. The introduction concludes by inviting readers to rethink the possibilities and potentials for contemporary popular musics to gain the prestige that their actual popularity would suggest they should already command.
