Abstract
This chapter presents the challenges for researching second learning acquisition in the context of Global English. Such endeavour needs to justify the link between language learning and Global English: this is delivered first. The Global English phenomenon has different implications for language learners who possess English as part of their first language, and those who do not: the state-of-the-art research is discussed in the next section. I then discuss how this new global language learning landscape has opened up new urgent research agendas and argue that it brings challenges as well as opportunities.
