Funding Information:
Major funding was provided by the Arts and Humanities Research Council in 2006-10, which enabled the scope and extent of fieldwork to be increased to include the recent geomorphology of the shoreline (10,000 BC-present) and its palaeo-environment, under the direction of Professor Helen Rendell at Loughborough University, and the further development of effective methodologies for topographical and geophysical survey under the local forest conditions, so as to place the Vicus in its wider built environment. Funds have also been received over the years from the British Academy, Roman Society and University of Oxford, while much generous support in kind has been supplied by the British School at Rome, the Soprintendenza Archeologica di Ostia, Royal Holloway and especially the Castelporziano estate.
