Abstract
We quantize the free massive symmetric tensor field in arbitrary vacuum spacetime with a positive cosmological constant. We find that the theory with (mass)2 between 0 (linearized gravity) and 2 3 × (cosmological constant) is non-unitary if we require that it locally resemble the flat-spacetime counterpart. This is the generalization of the result obtained earlier in de Sitter spacetime.
