Abstract
Nine strains isolated from symbiotic root nodules on Alhagi sparsifolia were previously designated as representing genospecies I. Phylogenetic analyses indicated that genospecies I was related closely to Mesorhizobium alhagi (genospecies II), and clearly formed a new lineage within the genus Mesorhizobium.
