Abstract

New recording for Decca Classics to be released April 2017 on the 450th anniversary of Monteverdi's birth. Recordings of Monteverdi's 1610 Vespers abound but his 1640/1 collection (the subject of this recording) is much less known and will feature the fruits of new research on ornamentation over falsobordone texture and the relationship of duple to triple times, very much unresolved for this period but having a considerable effect on the feel of the music. The CD is backed up by four short films about the recording available free.
