Abstract

In recent years, a number of countries have published guidelines of policies and strategies that integrate environmental and social issues in the financial sector. The purpose of these guidelines is to provide recommendations that steer capital towards sustainable investments and that support financial sector sustainability and stability. Favourable national strategies for sustainable finance can thus guide investments toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). This contribution will present 25 sustainable finance guidelines and regulations and assess how they address the sustainable development goals in their mandates. After a description of the SDGs and the sustainable finance guidelines and regulations, we will present an analysis of the policies based on text analysis. Finally, we will present some proposals to improve the policies to better meet the SDGs.
