Abstract
The authors present a new technique for nonintrusive optical time-domain reflectometry. The correlation of the transmitted traffic data with the backscattered signal allows the power attenuation of the optical link to be measured. Hence, as no additional signal is used, there is no reduction of the channel capacity. The application of nonlinear signal processing to improve the performance is also described
