Abstract

The existence of a noncommutative deformation of spacetime geometry implies restrictive compatibility conditions between the metric and the noncommutativity. This has implications for any physical theory which encompasses a noncommutatively deformed spacetime. In particular, it suggests a condition on the metric in at least one limit of string theory.
