Abstract

Reaction of mesomorphic alkynes with [RhMe(PMe(3))(4)] led to the Rh-III complexes mer,trans-[RhH(alkynyl)(2)(PMe(3))(3)] which are liquid crystalline; they are rare examples of rod-like liquid crystals based on an octahedral metal centre and represent a unique homologous series of mesomorphic metal complexes containing a hydride function.
