Abstract
This book, commissioned by Bloomsbury, comes of an extraordinary international collaboration between the Universities of York and Melbourne piloted through Mary Luckhurst's HEA large grant from 2009-2012 - which investigated ways of enhancing actor training in the UK. Co-authored with Tanya Gerstle the book contextualises the emergence of Gerstle's improvisation practice in Australia, and documents how, uniquely, Gerstle's practice can be used to train actors for classical, contemporary and devised theatre work. This is the introduction of a major new training practice to Europe and America.
