Abstract

The study of clustering phenomena in nuclei has a long history in nuclear physics. Recent advances in this field, both theoretical and experimental, have significantly extended our understanding of the interactions of clusters of nucleons within the nucleus. Sophisticated variational cluster calculations, realistic shell model calculations, and mean-field models have predicted the existence of a wide variety of deformed cluster configurations, particularly at high excitation energy in nuclei in the s-d shell, whose existence has been revealed using newly developed, powerful experimental techniques.
