title = "Renewable solvent selection in medicinal chemistry",
abstract = "This chapter serves to raise awareness within medicinal chemistry of the possibilities regarding substitution in favour of more benign solvents. Although bio-based solvents are not universally safe and non-toxic, by virtue of being renewable they diminish concerns about the use of finite oil and natural gas reserves. The tools available to help phase out solvents with undesirable environmental impacts are presented with an emphasis on solvent polarity as a means of identifying replacement solvents.",
