Abstract

This report explores the range and availability of guides and information for young people leaving care in England and the usefulness of such materials based on their views. Data for the study came from a national survey of all local authorities in England, interviews with four groups of young people who had left care, a questionnaire sent to young people who had left care, and a content analysis of 11 leaving care guides. The findings highlight the availability and use of the guides as well as the production, updating and distribution of the guides. Findings on the content and style of the guides are also presented. Ten recommendations are made.
