Abstract

A review of the existing literature on self-employment, including the definition and characteristics of the self-employed types of work undertaken, living standards and organisation of finances. The aim of the review was to improve the Department's and the Contributions Agency's understanding of why some self-employed people fall behind or default on payments of Class 2 National Insurance contributions.
