Abstract
We present in this paper some infant burials investigated during two recent excavations campaigns carried out in the
residential district of the Hellenistic and Roman town of Akragas/Agrigentum, where a necropolis developed in the 6 th
and 7 th century. The tombs, made of stone slabs, were found into some rooms of the ancient domus. Each tomb
contained multiple burials, of individuals buried at the same or at different times. Children were 37,5% of the
individuals; they were buried both in tombs used also for adults and in tombs exclusively intended for infant burials. We
We have not yet performed paleopathological analysis, but the anthropological investigation about two of the skeletal
remains of children allowed interesting observations about their health.
