Syntheses and structures of bis(imido)organophosphine dianions

Abstract

A bis(imido)phosphine dianion, [R'P(NR)(2)](2-) (R' = n-Bu, R = N-N=CPh2) is produced from the reaction of PCl3 with benzophenone hydrazone (1:3 equiv) in THF-NEt3, followed by metallation of the reaction mixture with 3 equiv n-BuLi. A more straightforward synthesis of a comparable dianion (with R' = Ph, R = N-N=CPh2) is the reaction of PhPCl2 with benzophenone hydrazone (1:2 equiv) in THF-NEt3, followed by metallation of the reaction mixture with 2 equiv n-BuLi.
