Abstract
A novel metallomesogen side chain liquid crystal polymer (MMSCLCP) derived from a new copper(II) co-ordination complex has been synthesised free from cross-linking and has been shown to exhibit a smectic A (S-A) mesophase. This is the first example of a true MMSCLCP derived from a co-ordination complex, previous examples being organometallic species.
