Abstract

A spray formed alloy (UL30) was characterized by optical, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. TEM observation reveals the formation of coherent 20 nm particles of Al3Zr (beta'), after annealing at 365 degrees C for 3 and 6 hr, which grow to 40 nm after 100 hr annealing. 4 nm precipitates of Al3Li (delta') were observed throughout the matrix and also surrounding the beta' precipitates.
