Abstract

Considers arguments over legal pluralism and supplemental liability with regard to the Archbishop of Canterbury's controversial lecture concerning the apparent approval of the adoption of certain aspects of Sharia law in the English legal system. Examines the ambiguity over whether such a concept would be limited to civil proceedings or whether it would extend to issues of criminal liability. Criticises the Archbishop's justifications for the existence of supplemental legal jurisdictions.
