Abstract

The recording density of thin film media is affected by percolation within the transitions. There is some evidence that the presence of low coercivity grains within the films might provide 'weak links' around which percolation nucleates. We have simulated such a system and found that the bulk parameters of films are affected by such grains and more importantly, a dramatic effect on the magnetic microstructure within transitions occurs.
