Evaluates the effects of gentrification on residential neighbourhoods. Argues that research conducted to date has demonstrated that gentrification has resulted in household displacement and community conflict. Examines the role of gentrification in current UK urban policy developments, noting that the term has been linked in regeneration policy documents with positive improvements in local housing and neighbourhoods. Suggests that gentrification is incompatible with the aims of an inclusive renaissance agenda.
