Abstract

We study quantum electrodynamics with a massless fermion field on a circle in Coulomb gauge, imposing a boundary condition such that the fields become their charge conjugates when they go around the circle. The theory is found to be equivalent to an anti-periodic free massive scalar field theory with two ground states.
