Abstract

A rotational sequence of quadrupole transitions was observed in 108Cd. The estimated angular momenta imply that states in this band lie between I=40(2)-60(2)ℏ. The moments of inertia and the deduced lower limit of the transition quadrupole moment suggest a very extended quadrupole ellipsoidal shape of the nucleus.
