Prof. Claire Gail Chambers



Claire Chambers is a lecturer at the University of York, where she teaches contemporary writing in English from South Asia, the Arab world, and their diasporas. She is the author of British Muslim Fictions: Interviews with Contemporary Writers (2011) and Britain Through Muslim Eyes: Literary Representations, 1780−1988 (2015). Both texts are part of a three-book series published by Palgrave Macmillan, and the third, Muslim Representations of Britain, 1988−Present,will come out in 2017. This work has been supported by funding from the British Academy and Arts and Humanities Research Council. Claire has also co-edited (with Caroline Herbert) the collection Imagining Muslims in South Asia and the Diaspora: Secularism, Religion, Representations (Routledge, 2015). She publishes widely in such journals as Postcolonial Text and Contemporary Women’s Writing, and is a columnist for Dawn and 3 Quarks Daily.  Finally, Claire is Editor, with Susan Watkins, of the Journal of Commonwealth Literature.
