Research interests

My work primarily involves numerical modelling of air pollution chemistry in the indoor environment. With my group, I investigate the chemical processes that cause high concentrations of air pollutants indoors, particularly those that are likely to be harmful to health. Our current research focuses on indoor air pollution that results from the use of cleaning devices and surface cleaners, emissions from materials (e.g. furnishing) and humans (e.g. from skin and breath), as well as other activities associated with human occupancy (e.g. cooking and cleaning). We are also exploring the impact of indoor photolysis on indoor air chemistry.

I lead a number of projects on indoor air chemistry, including from the US. I have been co-leading the Chemistry of Indoor Environments (CIE) programme modelling consortium (MOCCIE) funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation since 2017. Since 2018, I have also been the Chair of the EU INDAIRPOLLNET COST Action, which involves leading and co-ordinating the activities of more than 170 (mainly) European scientists. I am also a member of the UK Committee on the Medical Effects of Air Pollution (COMEAP) and the Editorial Board of Atmospheric Environment.
